Barbecue Relish Recipe

This is a tasty relish that can be quickly mixed together. It tastes great with barbecued meats, and in cheeseburgers and hamburgers. As this relish does contain mayonnaise, you should eat it immediately after preparing it, or at least store in the fridge before use, as it can go off quickly.

Here are ingredients. All amounts are approximate, and can be varied according to your preferences.
  • Tinned sweet corn (approx 7 ounces - 200 grams)
  • 1 small red onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 1½ tablespoons Mayonnaise
  • Optional: Cucumber and/or chopped green (spring) onions
  • Optional: Hot sauce (dash)
Here are the steps to prepare the relish:
  1. Peel and finely chop the onion, and put it into a mixing bowl.

  2. Finely dice the tomato, and add this to the mixing bowl.

  3. Open the tinned sweetcorn tin. Drain it, and add the sweetcorn to the bowl.

  4. You can also add, if you wish, a little chopped cucumber and/or some finely chopped green (spring) onions.

  5. After you have placed all the ingredients into the bowl, add about 1½ tablespoons of mayonnaise, and, if you like, a dash of hot sauce as well.

  6. Mix all the ingredients together until you have achieved a uniform consistency.

  7. As mentioned, barbecue relish is a great condiment for barbecued meats, and goes particularly well with cheeseburgers and hamburgers.
