Chickpea Dip Recipe

Why buy hummus from the store, when it is easy to make a chickpea dip at home? Making at home, not only provides that personal touch, but allows you to make the dip exactly as you like it!

Here are ingredients. All amounts are approximate, and can be varied according to your preference.
  • 15 ounces (450 grams) Cooked Chickpeas (from a can)
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil (2 tablespoons)
  • Lemon Juice (1 tablespoon)
  • Salt (½ teaspoon)
  • Optional: 3½ ounces (100 grams) Tahini (sesame seed paste)
  • Optional: Garlic (2 cloves, crushed)
  • Optional: Chopped onion (2 tablespoons)
  • Optional: Paprika (1 teaspoon)
  • Optional: Ground Cumin (1 teaspoon)
You prepare chickpea dip:
  1. Open the can of chickpeas, drain (putting the water aside as you may need it later), and place the chickpeas into a bowl. You should also put aside a few chickpeas for use later.

  2. Mash the bowl of chickpeas, and mix in the other ingredients, except for a little of the olive oil. If the mixture is too thick for your liking, you can add a little of the water from the chickpea can until you achieve a consistency that you are happy with.

  3. Just before serving, drizzle the bowl with extra virgin olive oil, garnish with the whole chickpeas that you set aside.

  4. This dip can be served with a flat bread, such as pita bread.
